Henderson Rotary is proud to continue support Matuku Link. Henderson Rotary’s members have participated in a number of working bees at Matuku Link, working on jobs like repotting seedlings, weeding, planting trees and plants in their wetland area, maintenance on the buildings and facilities.

Matuku Link is located at 111 Bethells Road, Te Henga, West Auckland, immediately upstream of the Te Henga Wetland, the largest wetland in the Auckland region. It has a house, a barn and a nursery on the road side of the 37 hectares of wetland and native bush. A caretaker and students live in the house, the barn will be the Sustainable Wetland Education Centre and the nursery will provide us with eco-sourced plants for the wetland.

The excellent lowland native forest will become a safe corridor for native fauna with quality predator control like neighbouring projects Ark in the Park, Matuku Reserve, Habitat te Henga and Forest Ridge.

On our November 2019 visit to Matuku Link a number of Henderson Rotary and Rotalite West members helped dig two holes and then move two large water troughs into place. These will be planted with wetland plants in order to be able to educate visitors about the types of plants which are endemic to wetlands.

We also carried out a heap of weeding and other odd jobs. A very fun and worthwhile job. Thanks to District Governor Ian Kiernan and Jasmine to were on site to lend their support and muscles to the work.
