RYLA - Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

The programme is run at district level under the guidance of Rotarians and business professionals. Clubs select, nominate and sponsor young men and women (who have left school) between the ages of 18 to 24 inclusive and who have already demonstrated leadership potential.

Whether you are a worker, young professional, self employed or a tertiary student, if you want to apply you will be someone who has demonstrated leadership potential in your community, your studies, your workplace, sports team or the arts.

The RYLA mission is ... "To provide an effective training experience that will enable selected young leaders to fulfil their potential and better serve their community, country and place of work".

RYLA Objectives
  • To demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth
  • To bring together people who have evidenced leadership qualities and who will benefit from a seminar covering a balanced programme of lectures, discussion groups and interaction over a week long period
  • To provide information and instruction on subjects of interest and of benefit to these young people through various industry leaders and experts on a wide range of topics
  • To better equip, instruct and encourage promising young people from differing cultures and backgrounds to better serve their community and their country
  • To encourage leadership of youth by youth
  • To recognise young people who are providing service to their communities
  • Provide awardees with an experience they will not forget

RYLA 2012 - Hosted by The Rotary Club of Henderson

The Rotary Club of Henderson is delighted to be organising, hosting and conducting RYLA 2012, building on the excellent programmes of the past.

There's and increasing demand for real leadership within our economy, society and family structures, as our global economy becomes more challenging and the world's economy shows greater fragility. Generally speaking - successful leaders are made not born. District 9210 have re-assigned Hugh Oakley-Brown - of Whangarei Sunrise RYLA 2011 to prepare another challenging and stimulating week for developing and extending young leaders.

The varied, one week live-in RYLA programme has proved extraordinarily successful over many years. It provides an environment in which young people can develop their leadership, team work and communication skills.

Many RYLA graduates have referred to the experience as :

‘the week that changed my life'.

Today more than 25,000 young people graduate from RYLA courses, camps and seminars each year in many countries around the world. District 9910 has been running successful courses for more than 25 years with 30-40 Awardees attending each of them.

RYLA helps Awardees understand the requirements of many aspects of business, community, and personal leadership. With RYLA now spanning two generations, many of today's prominent leaders can attest to the benefits of their participation in RYLA.

We ask that Rotary Clubs and Rotarians in our District put forward high-calibre candidates for selection to attend the RYLA 2012. The week is extremely challenging and all candidates must be mentally alert and physically fit.

Please note the timeline to ensure all applications are with us by 15 March 2012

This means you have just four months to promote RYLA in your community, gather and interview candidates and then select your candidate to sponsor.

We look forward to working with you on this outstanding project.
